Beach bummin

There's just nothing like hitting HB for a little shopping on main street, a hot dog from a street vendor, and catching some much needed rays on the sand.

This is why I love summer!!!!! We just never do it enough! However, I proudly declare to you, my fellow bloggers, that I consider myself a true beach bum in that today is the thiiird day in a row that I am hittin the beach, sunburned and all! Only this time, we are in good company! We've upgraded to corona del mar beach, (my personal favorite), and have our bodyboarding pro Matty to teach us about the direction of the current. My knowledge about waves has improved tremendously over the past five years soooo I know know that southwest currents means you have to wait a lot longer for matt to get out of the water ;). Something about the time you have to wait in between sets...idk. The point is, cait and I are regular beach bums!!

Our new mission: to fulfill our life dreams of being blue crush. After one incredibly sad attempt to learn to bodyboarding in High school, I gave up the dream. It just wasnt gonna happen for me. I ate it so bad that day theres just no wayyyyy I'd try again. However, after being inspired by a couple of baywatch babes and a few too many beach boys songs, I've decided to give it another try. So wish me luck everyone. Your girl is hittin the waves today and WHO KNOWS what could come of this...

Nathead Getting Married

The truth is, your “practically adopted into the fam” sister only gets married once! Natalie has been a part of this family longer than I have. At three years old, my older sister Christina and Natalie met and have been inseparable ever since. The nice thing about having Nat around is that you just never really know what to expect. She truly is one of the most interesting people i’ve ever known. Whether its dressing up me and my friends and put on a photo shoot for us in my bedroom (i was twelve, it was fantastic), doing Henna tattoos all over our bodies for no reason, or drawing on my dad’s nipples (this, I have to tell you is THE most hilarious thing anyone has ever experienced), Nat is simply unpredictable, but ALWAYS a good time!

Naturally, we were all ecstatic to hear that our little Nathead, the quirky, bohemian goddess, was engaged to her longtime boyfriend Trevor!! Here’s something you should know about Nat: she is an AMAZING artist. She once did a painting of John Lennon that was absolutely incredible, I wish I could afford it. Knowing this about her, I was just so excited to see all the little artistic details that would go into her wedding planning! She certainly delivered. Her save the dates were hand drawn sketches, something no one else could ever think to do (or make look more beautiful). But then came the fun stuff...Just a few weeks ago, I was invited to celebrate Nat’s last hoorah as a single laday!!! In true Natalie fashion, we did what all bachelorettes do, took pole dancing lessons and went to a tranny show!! : ) Okay, okay, maybe not ALL Bride-to-Be’s have their girls dress up in funky lingerie and slide down poles, but this is NAT we are talking about! I have to say, though I will not be quitting my day job anytime soon to become a pole dancer (the truth is, I was really terrible at it : / ) I MUST say it’s the most fun I’ve ever had working out! The tranny show was HIGHlarious! The whole thing was very Nat.

One of our favorite parties to throw as a family (my aunt melissa is a party genius) is a good old fashioned lingerie shower! Knowing that Nat is always up for a little fun, this seemed like the perfect excuse to put our love for party planning and home decor into action! We gathered just a few fabulous women (all the girls in our family and hers) and got together for some delicious food, lemonade and sangria, a few games, and a lotta lingerie!

I’m so glad we got to celebrate Nat, my other other sister, this weekend! She is such an amazing person and I can’t WAIT to see her marry her love next weekend. I’m sure its going to be absolutely stunning! Love you nat! So glad you let us shower you with a little skanky skank!

Love,
Sprout (don’t ask)

Living with a Pop Star

Not everyone has a chance to live with their best friend. For just a short period (TOO SHORT), I got to live with a pop star, Caitlin Mary Rose. If you haven’t heard of her, you’re missing out. She’s the next Britney Spears. Caiti and have been tight since we were little babies, always laughing for no reason, always in our own little world. Growing up, caiti and I lived about three hours away from each other, so getting together was ALWAYS a HUGE deal. We would have the best time playing Nintendo, taking Annie on walks, playing at Aunt Vicki’s school, and of course, dancing to pop songs. I never really knew the words but caiti was the pop queen even when we were little. Those weekends up in Santa Maria had to end sometime, and boy did they end sadly. I remember being devastated saying goodbye to caiti. I always begged my parents to stay longer and begged caiti to move back to southern cali. Little did we know we would soon be in the same college town, going to schools that were just across the street from each other. We were about to live the dream!

We’re STILL in our own little world. I must say, life is better when caiti is around. She has taught me many things. Some good, some bad, and some just plain divalicious. I’ll ALWAYS be grateful for our college years together. So here are just a few things i’ve learned from living with a diva:

1. you haven’t lived until you’ve been to a pop concert (hell ya katy perry)
2. you can never be overdressed
3. sometimes, you just have to hit the snooze 12 more times.
4. going to the movies in pjs is the ONLY way to go
5. dinner isnt complete without something sweet
6. it never benefits you not to go (well that one really is a treasure from aunt vicki)
7. some boys just dont get it
8. shiny purple unicorns will be the next spice girls meets pussycat dolls. beware.
9. all diaries should be read aloud with champagne and immediately burned thereafter
10. indie crap is overrated. BRING ON THE SPARKLES
11. britney rules all.
12. real friends don’t let four year olds call you ugly
13. never question her celebrity knowledge. claws come out.
14. hostesses work hard
15.“I can’t do it all the time, but I can do it this time” (another aunt vicki treasure)
16. the best afternoons are spent watching nip/tuck
17. “oh the things I would do with that chainsaw” STILL APPLIES
18.the best workouts include the pussycat dolls
19.just say no to chopsticks
20. March 1st is a force to be reckoned with
21. mariah carey is the only way to make the halloween blues go away
22. new years eves just will never get better for us
23. every car ride deserves its own specially made cd
24. disneyland is not the same without sparkly ears
25. we will never successfully complete a homework assignment when in the same room. its time to face the facts.
26. “Hey wanna come over and help me finish off some cupcakes?.... you look like you'd be good at it.”
 27. its cool to have big hips and huge brown hair (thanks for this one)
28.  sometimes you just have to give a good bitch slappin’
29. puds will be puds
30. Life’s just better when you have a little blonde haired cousin around

I’m sure ill learn a lot more from you in years to come. however, i must say this: did you fart? excuse me? faaaaaaaaaaaaaaart.

Adventures with my Favorite Little Kiddos!

Being the baby in the family, it is not all that often that I get to play older sister or "Auntie Gigi." For a long time, I feared, even DREADED being around little babies without my mom (the SUPER mom) to help chaperon. I figured, if they can't tell me why they are crying there's no WAY I'll be able to figure it out. I didn't like the feeding thing (too messy), wasn't so stoked on the diaper changing thing (too stinky), and was especially nervous about the burping thing (what? you need help burping?).

Needless to say, I was a little challenged in the whole 'caring for babies' department. Well, THAT was before my mom worked alongside and befriended her partner Amy, a true superhero mommy. Amy must be magical or something because she manages to carry her littlest bundle of joy, Koa (1 yr),  in one of those baby bjorn things while pushing a double stroller with Kai (4 yrs) and Leilani (2 yrs), without breaking a sweat and ALWAYS looking fab. 'How does she do it?' You ask! Sorry to tell ya, but I have no clue. The woman is AMAZE.

Today, we all went to the OC fair, along with another little friend of mine: Princess Emma. Emma and I are new friends! She is VERY smart and reminds me a lot of a Donahue kid (very fair skin and hair with  just a hint of red :). I loved hanging with Emma! She told me today that she was so happy to be with me and Auntie Kelly. PRECIOUS!
Me, Emma, and Lei on the Caterpillar ride (cool hair gi..reallly...)

Where I continually trip, though, is over Mr. Kai. Today Kai and I rode on a 'Big Kid' roller coaster! How did he get so grown up?!?! I remember one of the first times I watched Kai when he was a baby, (back when little kids were scarier to me than spiders, ahh!), my mom left us alone for just a quick minute to unload a few things out of the car. Kai Man began to cry (as all 1 yr olds do). My first reaction of course: panic! I tried everything. Cookies? Nope. Diaper change? Nope. Juice? Nope. He just cried and cried. So I did the thing all good (freaked out) aunties do...I CRIED TOO! hahaha!!! Mom came back in and found not one little baby balling, but two. She of course figured out whatever he needed. I was the one that really needed the consoling in the end. "I'm going to be a TERRIBLE AUNTIE and god forbid I ever have my own!!" So distraught. Well, after a few more dates with mr. kai, (thank goodness Ames trusted me to try again!), I learned lots of things about how to win over kids.

1. Keep Auntie Kelly around (she knows everything)
2. Don't freak out (they're like animals, they can sense your fear)
3. Give them TREASURES!
4. Sometimes we all just need a good nap
5. Cherish every moment, they grow up FAST!

Leilani, Koa, and Kai in a family pic Matt and I took last fall <3

Anyway, the point is, while riding the dragon roller coaster with Mr. Kai, I realized life is too short! Kids grow up fast! I know next time I see Kai, Lei, and Koa, they'll all seem a foot taller and pretty soon they won't need Auntie Gi to go on the Big Kid roller coasters with them! Sad!! Just so glad I've gotten to know these precious kids! I love them all so much! Can't WAIT till I can be auntie Gi to Chris and Freddy's kiddos! By then, I'm sure I'll be a pro! or....at least I'll be able to change a diaper... :/

A boyfriend abroad

Sometimes the daily grind just makes you lose sight of the of the important things in life. Even more so, sometimes you take advantage of having wonderful people around you. Wonderful people, like say... a certain boyfriend. Maybe you know what I'm talking about. Instead of spending your car rides enjoying each other, you both stare out the windows and complain about the horrendous traffic or your terrible days at work. Instead of cherishing those nights at home watching movies you start to complain, well, nag really, that he never takes you out on nice dates anymore. Sometimes the daily grind just eats up all the wonderful in a relationship.

So if daily annoyances are taking away all the fun between you and your most-cherished, here's one solution: let him go abroad while you stay home a-bored.

Want to know what you'll find? I'll tell ya! Youll find yourself moping around wishing you had someone to share your bad day tales to. Then, over time you'll realize your bad days are only bad cuz your favorite mancandy is not there to fight with you. A few MORE days will go by and you'll start to replay some of heated conversations you love birds used to have only to realize YOU were definitely the one being irrational, unreasonable, and kind of a bee.

Then comes day 17 of your mans trip, which just happens to be..uhmm..TOday, when you realize it: You actually had a perfect relationship!

What? Impossible! No relationship is perfect!

Well here's the thing: I'm sitting at home like a bump on a log missing this wonderful man and it hits me...ive been wasting all the wonderful with all this worry and stress.

Matt and I knew each other for four years before ever dating.  I kept my crush a secret, he did the same. In fact, he kept it a BIG secret.  hahah (truth is he had about 100 girlfriends before me, or so it seemed). Anyway. Matt and I developed a friendship which was sealed by my unwillingness to share my chicken strips at mimis cafe after a long water polo practice.  He thought I was trying to be adorable when in fact, this little Italian princess was just very hungry.  We began to date when I was 15. Ill never forget the song he wrote to tell me he loved me for the first time. I still know all the words! hit me up and I'll belt it out any day.
cuuuuute right?! look at that surfer hair! <3

Matt became my ride home from school, my FREE math tutor, my photo booth sidekick, my guitar guru, and my best friend. We loved to take photos together, loved going to church together.  The boy has a good heart and he only gets cuter.

Over the years We had our ups and downs as all couples do, but somehow through it all, it's always been Matty! I love him! And if the biggest thing we fight about is which freeway to take during traffic hour or how many times he goes to the beach in a week (it's a lot guys!) then I must consider myself a really lucky girl. To have known this sweet boy for ten years and to know that more than anything, I can count on him to be there when the chips are down..well there's not much better than that.

So, all you ladies who are ready to trade in your mr. Monster, take a deep breath, have a glass of wine, and take a closer look at your other half.  Don't let the little things ruin what could be amazing days with your matty (whoever the lucky guy might be)!  Now all I can do is sit and wait till he comes home to tell him he's ehhhh...a-okay. ;) Alright alright! I'm gonna tell him he's amaze!

And so the countdown continues: 8 days till Matty comes home from Honduras!

Sit Back, Relax! We're at the River!

My family LOVES going on vacations. Sometimes tropical ones, sometimes cozy ones, but ALWAYS fun ones. We're not exactly the camping type...the thought of us around a campfire, sleeping in tents is, well, laughable. Last year, we decided to do the next best thing: stay in a mobile home on the Colorado River.

I will admit, I had my doubts. BUT, it turned out to be one of my FAVORITE vacations of all time! Sippin' yummy tropical drinks on the sand, riding on the sea doos,  & getting roasted till we look like shriveled little raisin!! Who could ask for more?!

So, naturally, when it came around to planning a summer vacation this year, we couldn't WAIT to hit up the River once again! This time we had a few exciting additions to our group: Grammy and Grandpa, Uncle Jeffrey, and our very own little Bella DOG!

Bella LOVED barking at all the boats, chasing her toys, and swimming in the water with her mama

So happy Grammy and Grandpa came this year!!! Grandpa made bomb tuna sandwiches every day and always provided us with yummy snacks and breakfast in bed! HEAVEN! GRAMMY was quite the trooper! The girls in this family must have gotten our flare for adventure from our very own Pamela Ann! Who KNEW?!?

I'm so glad we went on this trip! I only wish Melissa and Trevor, Ally and Joe, and my very own Matty could have come too! THAT would have made it perfect...I suppose there is always next year..muahhaha.

I LOVE family getaways...even those super duper luxurious ones in trailers <3

P.s. Thanks for reading my first blog! You you made it all the way down here to the end! I'm glad to know you didn't fall asleep or close the window after the first sentence and decide forever that my writing has too many grammatical mistakes and I use too many exclamation points...trust me, I've been there.  : ) thanks! This should be fun!
